A Closer Look at The Owners

Andrew, Mike, and Jay all grew up in Arlington, VA, right inside the Beltway around Washington, D.C. As fate would have it, Andrew went to Yorktown High School, while Mike and Jay went to Washington-Lee, only a few miles apart. Then one afternoon during their freshman year of college at CNU, Mike and Jay (roommates at the time) met the notorious Andrew in the cafeteria. The years that followed from that chance luncheon encounter were filled with many levels of craziness. The craziest idea thing of all was starting a hookah lounge, which sprung up during a conversation between Andrew and Jay during their sophomore year of college. One off-handed comment ended up launching a hookah revolution, the likes of which the world has never seen. The ball quickly began rolling, and by the start of their second semester in their junior year, Lazy Dayz began.

What followed next was kind of a blur... Being full time college students, having little 'book knowledge' of business, and opening a start-up company proved to be quite the challenging combination. They built everything themselves, converting an old laundry mat into the preeminent hookah lounge on the east coast. It was done with extreme determination and will power, proving to be one of the most difficult undertakings of their lives. No matter how challenging it was, they just kept going... which they had to do since word got out about Lazy Dayz, and more and more people showed up every night.

All these years later, Lazy Dayz is still here, proving that hard work with a positive attitude really pay off in the end. It is possible to stay sane and really enjoy life, no matter what challenges are out there in front of you, and no matter what anyone else thinks about your crazy ideas. Surviving Lazy Dayz has been all about balancing the extreme hard work, and being able to keep it fun. This is why the three owners were able to not kill themselves or each other during all the tumultuous times.

Andrew, Mike, and Jay all went on to graduate at CNU with various degrees (Philosophy, Information Science, and Religious Studies respectively... take that MBA's!). What lies in the future? More Lazy Dayz around the country? Absolutely. The world? You better believe it! In space? Probably not...
